Germicidal Ultra-Violet Light, typically at 254nm is effective in disinfection but, used directly, can be a Health Hazard to skin and eyes. By contrast, Far-UVC light (222nm) efficiently kills pathogens potentially without harm to exposed human tissues.

Far-UVC 222nm is strongly absorbed by protein which is main substance of cell compared to 254nm. 222 does not reach to DNA inside human cell but 222 can reach to DNA inside bacteria cell.


Far-UVC 222nm is completely absorbed by stratum Corneum (dead cells) and 222 does not reach living cells in epidermal layer. Therefore 222nm does not cause Skin Cancer.

222nm is absorbed by the tear layer in Cornea and does not reach the lens. Therefore 222nm does not cause Keratitis.
